Please check out my artist page at Pond5 for a gander at the music I make aimed at podcasters and content creators, or take a gander below. If you like what you hear but are looking for something a little different, or something specific, reach out here and I’ll get back to you shortly.
rubberFoot: music and sound art
I also make music under the artist name, rubberFoot. In addition to singer-songwriter/bedroom producer stuff, I also like to make things that explore the nature of sound in-and-of itself. These are projects that look at the human voice, the act of listening, and the power of sound, what theorists call acoustemology.
Experiments With Voice
Voices are inflected to carry meaning beyond the actual words they speak. Where does that extra spark of affect live? In the phonemes? In the melody of the utterances? In harmony with other voices in conversation? This collection of tracks explores those questions, and are comprised entirely of human voices, with the exception of a vocoder in the first track, and the randomized chimes in the second track.
Sci-Fi Music: Electronic And Folk Ambient/Noise
OK, who knows with this category? Let’s start with Synth Farm, which was made using the Modular Synth software VCV Rack. This’ll fall under the “noise” category I think, but it’s a fun little off-world to explore for about six minutes.
This next set of tracks was inspired by that Cantina song from Star Wars (you know the one), and the first two were created using the music-coding platform SuperCollider, in which the name of the game was controlled randomness, and randomized control.
And, moving along with the sci-fi theme, but moving OUT of the electronic realm, we’ll get to what I think about as ‘ambient space folk,’ which consists of analog folk instruments… strings, harmonica, jaw harp and voice, looped and heavily filtered. It has a drifting, orbital quality and a kind of mournful emptiness that I think lends itself to a space theme. These are more sketches and experiments in texture and vibe than completed works.
Singer-Songwriter / Bedroom Producer Stuff
We’ll kick off this section with a selection of tracks I’ve recorded over the years. Maybe it’s an EP, who decides that? Anyway, some are old, most are quite unpolished. I’m told that this stuff comes out of my jam band influences, with a lyrical impulse toward riddles and wordplay.
And last but not least, a collection of scraps from my Instagram, fun little loops that might become something bigger someday, but as of now are still fun little sketches.
